Installation FAQ’s

  • The Cementec Sample Kit is a tester pack intended to let you create a small sample panel / trial area so you can see the look and feel of the system.

    Typical contents:

    • Cementec BASE – 5 kg (1 bucket)

    • Cementec FINO – 5 kg (1 bucket)

    • Cementec MEDIUM (listed as “MEDIO”) – 5 kg (1 bucket)

    • Tecno PRIMER – 1 kg (1 bottle)

    • Finish FORTE PLUS (Matte) – 1 kg (1 bottle)

    • Tecno CONSOLIDADOR FORTE – 1 kg (1 bottle)

    • Pigments / colour bottles (Arabian):

      • Pigment for Standard (5 kg)2 bottles

      • Pigment for Medium (5 kg)1 bottle

        Important notes:

        • Contents/colours can vary from time to time

        • This is a tester kit, not a complete specification for all substrates.

        • Tiles are a non-porous substrate, so the correct bonding primer is typically Tecno SEAL (2-component epoxy) after joints are dealt with — and SEAL is not included in the sample kit.

  • Yes, but system choice depends on the application.

    • Floors: All Cementec systems can be used (Standard, Medium, High Transit), depending on expected use and traffic. (note FAQ relating to underfloor heating)

    • Walls: Cementec Standard and Cementec Medium are recommended, with Standard being the most commonly used system for vertical surfaces.

  • Coverage depends on the system and surface type.
Cementec supplies products in containers, and consumption is calculated per system.

For reference, a standard Cementec system covering 100 m² on cement-based walls or floors typically includes:

    • CONSOLIDATOR FORTE – 5 L (1 can)

    • FIBER MESH – 100 m

    • CEMENTEC BASE – 23 buckets (12 kg each)

    • CEMENTEC FINO – 6 buckets (12 kg each)

    • PRIMER – 5 L (1 can)

    • Walls: NATURAL / FORTE Finish – 12 L

    • Floors: FORTE PLUS Finish – 10 L

Note: example only; depends on substrate, texture, coats, wastage

Detailed consumption tables are available in the technical documentation.

  • The surface water resistance comes from the sealing/topcoat system, not from the decorative microcement coats alone. In wet areas this is typically PRIMER + FINISH FORTE PLUS. FORTE PLUS is described as suitable for kitchens, bathrooms and showers.

  • Cementec can be specified in bathrooms and wet areas, but the sealing system is critical. The microcement layers create the decorative finish; the surface water resistance comes from the sealer/topcoat system.

For shower and wetroom zones (significant water contact), specify:

    • PRIMER + FINISH FORTE PLUS(FORTE PLUS is intended for areas in contact with water such as kitchens, bathrooms and showers).

    • When using FORTE PLUS, Cementec state 2 coats of PRIMER are required, with longer drying before applying applying FORTE PLUS.

Important: In a wetroom/shower, the substrate should be correctly waterproofed/tanked and detailed (falls, corners, penetrations). Cementec is the decorative finish layer on top.

  • For underfloor heating, Cementec have advised specifying a higher performance system such as HIGH TRANSIT or EXTREME (system choice depends on expected traffic and use).

Underfloor heating increases movement risk, so correct specification and preparation are essential. As a minimum:

    • The substrate must be stable, fully cured, and free from moisture issues.

    • UFH should be commissioned in line with best practice before microcement is applied (to reduce later movement).

    • Movement joints, cracks, and weak/unstable backgrounds must be addressed before starting.

    • Final finish selection should match the environment (wet areas/shower zones require the correct sealing system).

Note: Cementec materials are supplied only; installation method and substrate preparation remain the responsibility of the applicator.

  • Yes. Traffic level determines the appropriate system.

    • Residential / domestic use: Cementec Standard

    • Public or commercial areas: Cementec Medium or Cementec High Transit

    System build-up remains the same:

    • 2 layers of Cementec BASE

    • 2 layers of FINO / MEDIUM / HIGH TRANSIT

    Sealing and finishing:

    • PRIMER is always required

    • Walls: FORTE Finish

    • Floors: FORTE PLUS Finish

  • Cementec microcement can be finished in:

    • Matte (standard and most natural appearance)

    • Satin (used selectively)

    • Gloss (rarely recommended; can appear artificial)

Finish choice does not affect material consumption or pricing.

  • No.
Matte, satin, and gloss finishes do not change system build-up, material consumption, or pricing.

  • Yes, but application conditions are critical.

    Requirements:

    • Minimum application temperature: 5 °C

    • No rain forecast during application

    • Exterior substrates must be:

      • Waterproofed

      • Sloped to prevent standing water

    Recommended systems:

    • Cementec Medium

    • Cementec High Transit

  • Yes.
All Cementec systems are suitable for concrete bathtubs and sinks when correctly prepared and sealed.

  • Yes, with the correct system and preparation.

    • Recommended system: Cementec High Transit

    • Finish: FORTE PLUS varnish (waterproof and stain-resistant)

    • The prepared surface must be solid and cannot flex

    Important note:
Hot cookware or utensils should never be placed directly on microcement surfaces. Always use protective mats or surfaces.

  • No. Cementec is a decorative finish system. In showers/wetrooms the substrate should be correctly waterproofed (tanked) and detailed (falls, corners, penetrations) before any microcement system is applied. The Cementec finish provides surface water protection, but it does not replace proper wetroom construction.

  • As per the PRIMER datasheet: Apply 2 coats if you are going to apply FORTE PLUS, and allow 12 hours drying before FORTE PLUS.

  • Some calculators default to a standard interior wall finish unless the wet-area finish is explicitly selected. For bathrooms/kitchens and any shower/wetroom zones, the finish should be manually specified as FORTE PLUS (and PRIMER adjusted accordingly).

  • The Cementec mesh (MALLA) datasheet describes 145 g/m² and 70 g/m² fibreglass meshes. It should not be overlapped (butt-jointed to avoid ridges). On floors it is laid across the full surface; in higher crack-risk areas, Cementec describe double mesh crossed.

The Mesh (MALLA) datasheet also explains embedding: thicker mesh is embedded with BASE, while thinner mesh is embedded using SEAL

  • Pools/jacuzzis are treated as a separate system. Cementec provides a dedicated CEMENTEC POOL + FINISH POOL system for long-term water containment.

Some microcement products reference wet areas but state they are not suitable for pools.
